Question on Court Reporting Wisdom

What is one thing you wish you knew as a court reporting student or new court reporter?

Here’s what our Court Reporters had to share:

“To not take lightly when the working reporters said to network! Building a community around you is so important for feedback, opportunities, and support.”

“Education doesn’t stop when you graduate. You need constant grammar, punctuation, software, and procedures training. It’s easy to pick up bad habits. Refreshers from the experts keeps you sharp.”

“Don’t remain stagnant. Be receptive to feedback. Keep learning and be willing to learn.”

“To set aside an appropriate amount to pay taxes and put in savings and invest out of every check, to plan for the future.”

“Preparedness. When I first started out, I actually had a checklist because, when you first start as a fledgling reporter, it’s easy to forget something.”

“You don’t have to stay with a firm that you don’t like and/or that doesn’t treat you well. There are great ones out there. (B&A is awesome!)”

“Get as many certifications as you can. It builds your confidence.”
